Final Thoughts

I have really enjoyed being able to working to work in Miss Adair's class. I learned many new teaching strategies and identified areas that I can work on to better my personal techniques. This class was a good first experience in the classroom for me! They paid attention and were willing to go along with each lesson that I planned. I am grateful to Alyssa (Adair) for her help with the classroom management part of each lesson. There are specific things that she has worked on with her class to teach them how to self-regulate, and the students respond well to them. I will adapt some of those in my own classroom (for example, using chants, practicing procedures, and having specific cues to name a few). Lesson planning each week for the various activities has been great practice as I have thought through first grade standards and how each relates to a principle of drama. I will implement what I have learned through this experience when I have my own classroom! I will really miss these

At the end of the Arts Bridge Program, we have the task of putting together a cumulative project to reflect our work over the semester. I focused my last two visits on this project. Miss Adair and I decided that we wanted to do something small scale to help the class remember the things that we learned through the various activities that we did each week. The first day of this lesson, we started with a warm-up game to get the students moving and thinking on a drama level. To do so, we played "Number Levels" which we have played several times. The kids really like this one because it allows them to move in a fun way. After the warm-up, the class sat in a circle. Miss Adair wrote four categories of what we learned through the activities on large pieces of paper: 5-Finger Retell, Unity, Nouns/Verbs/Adjectives, and Opinions/Facts. We then went through each category and listed what activities went with which category. I was impressed with how many activities the students were
